National Organization build, deliver bunk beds to low-income families

WHAT

In what will be an exciting day for families in public housing, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the Lowe’s Hero Project collaborated to build bunk beds for more than 100 families living in Opportunity Home San Antonio (Opportunity Home) properties and will make special deliveries on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national organization that estimates up to 2.2 million children in the U.S. sleep on the floor every night. The organization gathered local partners to build beds for children at Opportunity Home San Antonio (Opportunity Home) properties to combat child bedlessness.

Luke Mickelson, the Sleep in Heavenly Peace founder who was named among CNN’s list of top heroes for 2018, has traveled to San Antonio to assist in the delivery of the beds.

Opportunity Home provides housing assistance to more than 65,000 individuals. More than 50 percent of the individuals served are younger than 18 years old. The average household makes less than $12,000 annually.

To support Opportunity Home families, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the Lowe’s Hero Project built the beds on Friday, Sept. 27, to assemble and deliver a donation of a bunk bed, new mattresses and bedding to each family.
