Resident becomes voice of her community
Meet Janet— A San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) resident, Resident Council Vice President, Digital Brand Ambassador for ConnectHomeSA, a single mother and inspiration to the SAHA community.
Janet is highly engaged from leading community meetings to helping residents better themselves. Janet is becoming the change she hopes to see in her community and spends a majority of her time interacting with residents around her community and informing residents of the opportunities offered by SAHA.
“This is my community, and I need to be involved, I have a cool connection with SAHA and find it unique that I can continue to be an asset to SAHA, as a Digital Ambassador, a resident and as a person.”
Janet is an inspiration to her children, single mothers and all SAHA community members and says she believes opportunities provided by SAHA inspire others to become more involved.
Janet’s advocacy for her community has given her an opportunity to be interviewed by local television stations and even receive personally addressed correspondence from the White House. Janet says she is determined to see her community and the people in it become successful. She says she knows the programs provided by SAHA are a step in the right direction.
“SAHA is here to uplift us and to make us independent, and I think these programs are super important, especially in low-income communities. The atmosphere that I want to see in the future requires input and work – It doesn’t happen by itself and it’s not a job that is done alone, it takes community effort. ”
We are community-driven. We are advocates. #WeAreSAHA.
